Charitable Knitting & Crochet

My Nana’s Knitted Knockers is a local group, headed by Beth Spauling, knitting and crocheting breast prostheses to give to breast cancer survivors.

The group will be meeting at Yarn Harbor on Wednesdays 10 am - 3 pm weekly. You are always welcome to join them. For more info you can call Beth at 715-399-9936 or check out the Knitted Knocker web site.

Julie’s focus for FLOCK (For Love of Charitable Knitting) this time around is shawl knitting (or crocheting) for Circle of Hope. Circle of Hope is located out of Duluth, MN, and is an organization committed to serving breast cancer patients in northern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin.

You can drop off your shawl at Yarn Harbor, and we will distribute them. Please check out the Circle of Hope website for more information on the amazing work this organization has been doing in our region.

Welcome to Yarn Harbor!

We’re at it again! Team Yarn Harbor for the winter Olympics. Here’s how it works: Pick a project that will be challenge for you to knit or crochet during the Olympic games. Think about a new technique, a pattern you’ve been procrastinating on, or something new that catches your interest. You cannot start the project until Opening Ceremonies (although you may purchase all of your materials and complete your swatch). The goal is to finish by Closing Ceremonies. Get your projects finished before the clock strikes midnight on February 23 (night of Closing Ceremonies in Sochi). You’ll have a grace period of 24 hourrs to cross the Finish Line of your events. Finish Lines close down starting February 25th.

If you want to join us for Team Yarn Harbor, you must sign up at the shop before Friday, February 7th. Sorry, no late comers. We will give you a 15% discount on your Olympic project supplies at time of sign up. We will also be on hand to encourage you in your Ravellenic journey of excellence! If you are on Ravelry, you can follow along at http://www.ravelry.com/groups/ravellenic-games-2014. We will also post updates on our blog and on our Facebook page.

"Won't You Wear A Sweater?" Day

Thursday, March 20th - all day

Help us celebrate Mister Rogers’ “Won’t You Wear a Sweater?” Day on March 20th in honor of his birthday. 2014 marks what would have been his 86th birthday.

Did you know the sweaters he wore on the set were hand knit by his mother? Wear your favorite sweater March 20th, hand knit or not, in tribute. “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.”

Yarn Harbor Pajama Parties are monthly events where the store remains open until 10:00 pm and people gather round the table to knit, crochet, eat, and converse. Wear your pajamas (or not) and bring a project. We’d love to see you ‘round the table!

Needle-felting can be used to create 3-dimensional shapes and small sculptures out of roving and yarn. In this class, you will make basic shapes and adapt them by adding ears, facial features, and other design elements. Learn how to create blended colors, felt in facial features to add character, and beads and felt scraps to create a unique “critter.”

Material: felting pad or foam sponge, several ounces of wool roving in the colors of your choice, and heavy weight felting needle.
Cost: $15
Instructor: Theresa Hornstein

Saturday, March 29th, 7 - 9 pm

Back by popular demand, a little yarn tasting at the shop! I will be serving samples of various yarns for you to try out. Each guest will receive mini skeins of yarn to swatch with. Compare and discuss the different fibers. Bring your own needles - various sizes may be needed, depending on what you’d like to swatch. Refreshments will be served.
Come in and reserve your spot today; I have space for 12 guests. Cost: $25

Tuesday, April 1st, 10 am - 8 pm

Let’s play with yarn on the day made just for playing - April 1st. This is no joke. Really. We’re not fooling you. All yarn will be 15% off, and we’ll stay open late to help you shop. Seriously.

Really, all you need to become a good knitter are wool, needles, hands, and slightly below-average intelligence. Of course, superior intelligence, such as yours and mine, is an advantage.
