Beginners will be introduced to knitting by starting a basic project chosen from samples on display. Materials: One skein worsted weight yarn (Fantasy Naturale cotton is a good choice) and 10" single point knitting needles in US size 8, 9 or 10 (bamboo suggested). Knitters may bring in their current project.

During the summer months, it's nice to have a cute, lightweight hat to disguise those inevitable bad hair days from lazy afternoons at the beach. Learn beginning lace knitting techniques while creating the border, then top it off with a hat knit in the round. This hat is such a pleasure to knit that you'll want to whip one up for all of your friends! Students in this class should be comfortable knitting, purling, and decreasing (Knitting 101).

....TUNISIAN BAGMondays, June 21 & 28, 3-5 PM
This bag is a new pattern. It is so new that at the time of the newsletter it is not quite written yet. It will combine two different Tunisian stitches. You will learn how to do the Simple Stitch and the Knit Stitch. We will combine both stitches to make a very versatile bag. These stitches are easy to learn and you can do many different combinations after you get the hang of the basics. This is a great class for the beginner as well as the experienced Tunisian crocheter.
Materials: Size J Tunisian Hook, worsted weight yarn 400 yards main color, 200 yard complimentary color (example used Plymouth Encore), pattern, safety pin style stitch markers.

In the words of Elizabeth Zimmermann, "It is better not to make mittens in a hurry." Let's play with color while getting a head start on our winter mitten stashes. We'll knit the Norwegian Mittens from EZ's Knitter's Almanac as an introduction to two-color knitting. Use the provided traditional pattern or substitute a design of your own. Students in this class should be comfortable casting on and knitting in the round.
Materials: Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Almanac, approx. 50g each sport weight wool in main color and contrasting color, doublepoints or 9" circular needles to give you 6 stitches to 1", stitch markers, tapestry needle.

Use Noro, Boku or any nice tweed for a man scarf (makes a great gift for that hard to shop for guy). You have seen it in the store, you have wanted to make it, but you would like a little help. Well, help is here. Come to this class and make the Drop Stitch Scarf with a group! This two-session class should be enough to help you be confident in your ability to succeed at this great scarf. This is a beginner class, but please be comfortable with the knit stitch, cast on and cast off.
Materials: Free pattern online, one skein Jitterbug or 400 yards of a fingering weight yarn, straight needles size US 6, tapestry needle.

.....INTRO TO CROCHET SAMPLER SCARFLearn five of the basic stitches used in almost all crochet. Chain, Single, Half Double, and Shell stitches will be taught and practiced. This is a great class for anyone who is looking to get back to crochet but wants a refresher, or for someone who has never picked up a hook and wants to start at the beginning. We will make a sampler scarf as a finished project. This class is divided into two sessions so you have a chance to really learn and practice the stitches.

It is knit in a DK weight to keep it lightweight and features side shaping and a garter stitch edging. It is a great simple garment, and you do not have to worry about sleeves! Come and get a good start on your summer wardrobe. This is for the intermediate/beginner: You should know how to knit, purl, cast on and cast off. You will learn increases and decreases for shaping, and picking up stitches to knit the neckline and sleeves.
