Socks are among the best summer knitting projects because they are small enough to be portable and don't involve a large amount of fabric in your lap during the heat of summer. This pattern has directions for three different weights of yarn from fingering to worsted, so it's suitable for both beginner and intermediate sock knitters. Once you start knitting socks, you'll be hooked! You should be comfortable casting on, knitting and purling in the round on double-pointed needles, and decreasing.

Materials: Fiber Trends pattern AC-51, yarn, needles for gauge, and tapestry needle.

This pattern is just as the title says, Pure & Simple! This ladies summer cardigan is knitted in one piece, beginning at the neck edge. It's a great summer basic coverup that is ideal for wearing over tanks and spaghetti straps, especially in our Northland climate. The Summer Open Cardigan has a raglan sleeve style and a short length, and get this, no buttons! Easy flat knitting at it's absolute best! And it comes in a wide range of sizes. Join us for an easy summer knit class and make something special for yourself!

Materials: pattern; worsted weight yarn in appropriate yardage for chosen size; 29" US #10.5 and US #8 circular needles; 16" US #10.5 circular needles; doublepoint needles US #10.5 and US #8, or size required to achieve gauge; scrap yarn, stitch markers, tapestry needle.

This traditional Christmas stocking is knit in a tube from the top down. You have 17 motifs to choose from for the pattern bands, which you will knit in two colors (Fair Isle style). An afterthought heel is used. Skills used or learned: two color knitting, reading simple charts, afterthought heel, kitchener stitch. Note; this class is probably not a good one for brand new knitters, but is a good one for learning or practicing two-color knitting.

Materials: Nancy Lindberg's "Christmas Sock" pattern, any three colors worsted weight or heavy worsted (Aran) yarn, 16" circular needle size US 8 or 9.

sign up....CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT NEEDLE FELTING
Saturday, July 24, 11 AM-3 PM

Learn the basics of needle felting, an ancient art once used to adorn horse blankets and soldiers’ uniforms, now seen on shoes, purses, jackets or almost any fabric. We use wool roving and a special needle with barbs in the shank. No experience needed; you will learn it all in this class.

sign up....INTRO TO CROCHET SAMPLER SCARF
Saturdays, July 17 & 24, 3-5 PM

Learn five of the basic stitches used in almost all crochet. Chain, Single, Half Double, and Shell stitches will be taught and practiced. This is a great class for anyone who is looking to get back to crochet but wants a refresher, or for someone who has never picked up a hook and wants to start at the beginning. We will make a sampler scarf as a finished project. This class is divided into two sessions so you have a chance to really learn and practice the stitches.

Materials: Size J crochet hook, safety pin style stitch markers, approx 500 yards of yarn in a medium worsted weight. You can use all one color or up to five different colors.

This simple crochet shell scarf is a very easy pattern that will take you no time to learn. You can make several for friends and family. It makes a beautiful lightweight scarf for the summer to add style and pizzazz to any outfit.

Learn to make these simple gloves, one of the most popular accessories for people of all ages from teens to adults. They are fun to make and easy to learn. You will learn how to single crochet in the round and add a thumb gusset. These gloves would make a great gift!

Materials: Size G crochet hook, one skein of any sock yarn. Pattern available at Yarn Harbor.

 felting Tuesdays, July 20, 27 & August 3
5:30-7:30 PM

We have picked out a couple of fun summer felting projects for you! In this class you will have the choice of making one of Theresa Gaffey's "Large Felted Bowls" (#155) (beginner), or Two Old Bags "Grab Bag" (intermediate).
Felting is a great deal of fun, and it is so magical to see your knitted item become a whole new fabric during the felting process. You may find that you can't stop at just one! This is for the intermediate/beginner: You should know how to knit, purl, cast on and cast off. With the bowl you will learn the rolled edge and decreasing. With the purse you will learn the crochet cast on, increases and decreases for shaping, and the kitchener stitch.

Materials:
Theresa Gaffy's "Large Felted Bowls" (#155), or Two Old Bags "Grab Bag", feltable worsted weight yarn, stitch markers, tapestry needle. Knitting needles: for the bowl 24" size 11 circulars and double points, for the purse 24" size US 10.5 and a large crochet hook.
Cost: $30 + materials
