Expand your lace knitting skills with the Spiraluscious cowl, which incorporates three different lace patterns including hem edging. The finished cowl is a beautiful accessory for those chilly fall days or for your holiday knitting stash. After finishing this cowl you will have the skills you need to try bigger projects like scarves, stoles, and shawls. You should be comfortable casting on, knitting in the round, and binding off. Prior lace experience is not required, but will prove helpful.

Materials:
Anne Hanson's Spiraluscious pattern, 140-150 yards fingering weight yarn, 16" circular needle size US 3, stitch markers, and small tapestry needle.

art Saturday, August 7, 1-4 PM

Learn the basics of needle felting, an ancient art once used to adorn horse blankets and soldiers’ uniforms, now seen on shoes, purses, bags, jackets or almost any fabric. We use wool roving and a special needle with barbs in the shank. We will explore color blending and design concepts. Bring a design or picture of what you would like to make and we will make a needle felted piece of art that you can frame, put on a bag or a garment. No experience needed, you will learn it all in this class.

Materials: There is a kit you can purchase from the instructor for $10. Also, you may bring any roving you would like to use. Instructor will also provide roving for class project. Bring your own design/picture, or use one from the instructor.

Cost: $25 + $10 materials fee paid to instructor

People eight years old through middle school age will learn to knit or advance their skills in this workshop. Beginners will be introduced to knitting by starting a basic project of their choice. Knitters may bring their current project or begin a new project.

Materials: One skein worsted weight yarn (Fantasy Naturale cotton is a good choice) and 10" single point knitting needles in US size 8, 9 or 10 (bamboo suggested) or current project.

A classic triangular shawl worked up from the point. Five different sections separated with eyelet and edged with picots, make this an interesting pattern that will hold your attention and teach a few new skills along the way. The pattern is written for lace, fingering, sport dk, or worsted yarn.

Materials: pattern, yarn per pattern requirements, needles circular 32" or longer, size per pattern, markers (ring type).

Mitered squares are fun to knit and endlessly fascinating, especially when using a yarn with long color repeats like Plymouth’s Boku. Learn to knit squares of different sizes and to join them as you go, then throw the whole thing into your washer to turn it into a felted bag that only looks complex! Class prerequisties: able to knit and understand decreasing and picking up stitches.

Materials: three balls Boku yarn, any colorway. Straight or circular needles, US size 7 or 8, Mitered Felted Bag pattern.

This bag is a new pattern. It is so new that at the time of the newsletter it is not quite written yet. It will combine two different Tunisian stitches. You will learn how to do the Simple Stitch and the Knit Stitch. We will combine both stitches to make a very versatile bag. These stitches are easy to learn and you can do many different combinations after you get the hang of the basics. This is a great class for the beginner as well as the experienced Tunisian crocheter.

Materials: Size J Tunisian Hook, worsted weight yarn 400 yards main color, 200 yard complimentary color (example used Plymouth Encore), pattern, safety pin style stitch markers.

This scarf will use Tunisian Simple Stitch and Single Crochet combined to make a stunning scarf that will keep the chill off your shoulders this summer.

Materials: Size N Tunisian Hook, Size J Crochet Hook, 200 yards worsted weight yarn for main color, 200 yards worsted or DK weight complimentary color, large eyed blunt needle.

Celebrate Elizabeth Zimmerman's 100th birthday with one of her classic patterns. We'll explore different ways of interpreting EZ's "pithy directions" for this darling baby sweater, which is sure to be a hit at any baby shower! We'll talk about these interpretations in the first class, so bring whatever straight, circular, or doublepoint needles you have in the size you're knitting with so that you're prepared for whichever option you prefer. Students in this class should be comfortable casting on, knitting, purling, and binding off.

Materials: Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitter's Almanac, approx. 300 yards sport weight yarn, needles to give you 5 stitches to the inch, buttons, tapestry needle.

Beaded knitting can be just beautiful, but a bit daunting to do for the first time on your own. Join us for this class incorporating a simple lace pattern with an elegant smattering of beads. We will be using Heartstrings "Beaded Lace Scarf II". Get an early start on your gifting this year with this beautiful accessory! This is for the intermediate knitter: You should know how to knit, purl, increases, decreases, cast on and cast off. You will learn a simple lace pattern and how to string and manage beads on a knitted project.

Materials: Heartstring's Beaded Lace Scarf II, 475 yards of a lace weight yarn, size 8/0 seed beads 40g, split eye needle to string beads, stitch markers, size US 4 needles.

Come practice some new stitches and leave with a great accessory! Whether for the neck or for the head, the kerchief is a versatile accessory. In this class you will be able to choose your kerchief size and pattern, whether it be lace, cables, or the
walking stitch! A plant fiber in worsted weight is suggested. This is for the intermediate/beginner: You should know how to knit, purl, cast on and cast off. You will learn your choice of simple lace, cables, or walking stitch, assorted increases, and with the head kerchief you will also learn the knitted cast on.

Materials: Katie Chameleon's Kerchief's or Vee Neck, worsted weight yarn, head kerchiefs need a size US 6 needle, neck kerchiefs are knit on a size US 8, circular or straight, markers, tapestry needle.
